In 1984 Liu Wenfei became a researcher at the Institute of Foreign Literature of the Chinese Academy of Sciences;
In 1989-1990 studied at the Institute of Russian Language, and in 1991-1992 - in a training center, organized by the Academy and the University of California, USA;
In 1994 graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Literature of the Higher School of AON with a doctorate in literature degree;
In 1998-1999 studied at the Moscow Linguistic University;
In 1999 he was a teacher at Heilongjiang University, he was also a professor and visiting professor at more than ten universities, including Peking University and Hunan University, and also a member of the editorial board of the magazines World Literature and Ilin.
He held the post of director of the Center for Slavic Studies at the Beijing Pedagogical University, and at present he is the head of the Department of Russian Literature of the Institute of Foreign Literature of the Academy of Social Sciences of the PRC and the president of the Chinese Association for the Study of Russian Literature.
Liu Wenfei began to publish in 1982, he is the author of more than 30 books on the history of Russian literature, as well as about 100 articles and several monographs. He made a great contribution to the popularization of Russian literature in China. He translated Maxim Gorky, Andrei Bely, NS Gumilev, BL Pasternak, MI Tsvetaeva, OE Mandelshtam, DI Kharms, AI Solzhenitsyn, NR Erdman, V T. Shalamova, MM Prishvin, IA Brodsky, VG Rasputin, Victor Erofeev, VO Pelevin and many other Russian writers, prepared a ten-volume collection of works by Alexander Pushkin. Also translated the novel "Life and Fate" by Vasily Grossman, issued a five-volume collection of works by IE Babel.
